These reliefs start with the idea of land surveying and mapping with their aims of better understanding through the removed, birds eye view. The works are made with layers of spackle on panel. The surface builds up to form abstracted topographical landscapes. I find it helpful to think about the space I inhabit on the timeline of the known universe. Utilizing references to landscape and architecture allows me to consider my timeline in relationship to the vastness of Time, while acknowledging the necessary importance of my day-to-day phenomenal reality. This simply helps me remove myself, if only for a moment and incompletely, from a portion of the systems within which I’m tangled.
